Painter, watercolourist. Genre scenes, landscapes, animals.
A pupil of Daubigny, Boulanger and A. Guillemet, Léon Calvès made his Paris Salon debut in 1870 and continued to exhibit there for a number of years, showing mainly watercolours. He later started painting in oils and continued exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member. His animal paintings are not without interest and are reminiscent of Troyon at his best. Examples include In the Fields, Rut, Moselle River Ferryboat and Turkey Cocks.
